Mexico Futurity Consolation
BR JESSE
by Luis Prieto Zamudio, translation by Speedhorse
With the retirement of the gelding
Rey Alfredo, the Mexico Futurity Consolation was held with only nine of the 10 qualifiers from the April 17-18 trials to contest a purse of $357,150 pesos (approx. $17,721 U.S.) at a distance of 250 yards.
In the first day of trials, it was the RG Golden Doe who had the best time in this category with :13.132 in a photo finish with Perla Cartel, who recorded :13.138. This pair of sorrels came from race five on April 17, so a spectacular performance was expected in the finals on May 9.
However, this was not to be the case due to the filly Perla Cartel (#6) making an erratic exit and, as a result, hitting Cartel Chuma (#5) and in turn moving into Miss Krash Corona (#4), which earned the filly a disqualification. Meanwhile, RG Golden Doe (#2) began her speedy getaway to the finish line near the inner rail. However, her attempt was thwarted in the last 50 yards as BR Jesse (#8) was making a methodi-
cal closure down the center of the track to overcome her with a 1 1/2-length margin at the finish line.
José Roberto Durán was the responsible rider, achiev- ing the win in :13.00 for a 95 speed index, thus achiev- ing the first victory for the bay colt from two outings, and adding $178,575 pesos ($8,861 approx. U.S.) to
his account.
The son of stallion

Maximiliano Pérez Castañeda. His triumph came in the Mexico Futurity Consolation before his paternal brother, BR Chivali Champ, won the finals of Mexico Futurity-RG3. It was undoubtedly an exceptional afternoon for the team of the Cuadra Bronco Rider, including the jockey José Roberto Durán who rode both colts and is responsible for their daily training.
BR Jesse earned his qualifying position in race eight on April 17, coming in second behind Cartel Regio with a time of :13.169 for the eighth fastest qualifying time. His photo was posted in Speedhorse in May
2019, in the Future Stakes Winner section.
RG Golden Doe placed second, well directed by Heriberto Camacho Sotelo. She was foaled at the San Sebastian Farm and is the product of the stallion Carnegie Haul crossing with mare Perry Me (by Mr Jess Perry). She was trained by conditioner Victor Hugo Arias Oropeza.
In third was La Boots guided by Juan Diego Márquez. She is a sorrel daughter of Bullish One out of Oughter BN Boots (by Spanish Boot) and was bred by Cuadra La Presita. She belongs to the Cuadra H-R and is trained by Ismael Ayala Salas.
Baby Answer (Jesstified-The Answer Lady), CC Girls Blue (Cartel Executive-Zoomin Blue), Cartel Chuma (Danny Cartel-Divided Faith), Perla Cartel (Danny Cartel-Six Royal Alibis), Miss Krash Corona (Krash Poster-Corona Sistem) and Merry Pop Pop (Cartels Pop Pop- Merri Form) completed the order of finish.
