“‘Caring for the land’ is a
principle of paramount
importance for Indigenous
Peoples and only through
a collective process can we achieve this. GIC fulfills part of a
sacred prophecy that told of Indigenous Peoples uniting at a point
of great peril for our Mother Earth. The sacred grizzly bear has
guided us to this moment. Our Indigenous laws conceived in our
languages speak to the sharing responsibilities in ‘Caring for the
Land.' Indigenous Peoples hold collective title and rights over
waterways, oceans, and territorial lands that are threatened by oil
spills from tankers and pipelines. Our economies must change
from fossil fuels to clean energy. As the caretakers of our Mother
Earth we are constantly challenged with the responsibility of
defending the sacred.”
