Jacqueline Denise Cook
Jacqueline born in Detroit, the last of five children. What can I say about the baby of the bunch...she is unique in many ways. Jacki was the last to arrive, the first to have a child, first to come a grandparent and the first to graduate from college. For now I want to concentrate on the first to graduate from college, since this a family history book. As far back as our great, great, great, great grandparents, Jacki would be the first to my knowledge to achieve this goal. She did this as a single mother raising her two children mostly on her own, with very little income. Jacki is the epitome of a strong black woman, starting off as a teenage mom wasn’t easy, graduate from high school with her class while working at the University of Michigan and caring for her son and her daughter. There were many road blocks for my little sister, some she created and some placed in her way. When I look where God has lead her I am so very proud of the woman she has become. As her older sister and sometimes surrogate mom, there has been moments where she drove me crazy but there is not a moment that I don’t
feel a since of pride for her accomplishments. My little sister is no angel, when she was younger she would fight at the drop of a hat. Potty mouth could not describe the things that came out of her but she got that honestly. I have been told, which I find hard to believe that I carried that same potty mouth. For those of you who did not meet Albert Cook Sr., we got our potty mouth from him.
So from this moment on, when you see Jacki you see the first person in our family that started the path to a higher education, the first to extend our family and the first in our history to do all this as single woman. I love you Nurse Jacki, your big sister!
