                                                      ABSTRACT
There have been major advances in the use of nanotechnology resources in
various fields, including biomedical science, during the last decade. This
lecture, which is mainly based on the work performed by our research
group, will discuss some distinct biomedical applications of nanoparticles
and will highlight their therapeutic effects. The medical development of
serious diseases has a close connection with the advancements in science and
technology in the area of material science. Nanoparticles have many medical
uses, comprising the discovery of new pharmaceutical drugs, delivery
systems and therapeutic materials. This lecture will highlight the role of the
novel nano-based formulations in the treatment of some of the common
drug-resistant diseases such as glaucoma, depression and iron deficiency
anemia. The lecture will also point to a promising engineered nano-
formulation that was tested and proved to enhance breast cancer
radiosensitivity which will open a new horizon in the development of
effective anticancer drugs. This lecture thus will provide an overview on
some of the biomedical applications of nanoparticles and will highlight the
recent advancements in this area based on the work our research group has
                    carried out.
