                                              ABSTRACT

The use of new polymers for medical applications has increased rapidly over the past quarter
of century. The key qualities of polymers and dressings as health care products include that
they are bacteriostic, antiviral, fungistatic, non-toxic, high absorbent, non-allergic,
breathable, hemostatic, biocompatible and can incorporate medications, also provide
                    reasonable mechanical properties.
Polymers have many advantages over traditional materials, they give products modified or
blended with alginate, chitin/chitosan and collagen. Wound care also applied to materials
like hydrogels, films, hydrocolloids, foams, specialized additives with special functions can
be introduced in advanced health care with aim to absorb odors, provide strong antibacterial
properties, smooth pain and relieve irritation.
Because of their unique properties as high surface area to volume ratio, film thickness, nano
scale fiber diameter, porosity, light weight, nanofibers are used in health care.
