Brief history to be a writer

Profile as talented young writer in a life style magazine

Benny Arnas was born in Lubuklinggau, South Sumatera, May 8, 1983. His childhood is colorful. Living in
an environment with people from various tribes and religions on the banks of the Kelingi River, Benny and
the family can live a harmonious life. While studying in elementary school, Benny became a scavenger in
order to rent more books at the book rental stall in Ulaksurung. His favorite childhood reading is the
Petruk-Gareng comic, the Wiro Sableng novel series, and the novel silat series by Asmaraman S. Kho Ping Ho.
Stepping on high school-lectures, he found and loved classic literatures written by Marah Roesli, Mochtar
Lubis, Sutan Takdir Ali Syahbana, etc. He had ever write the results of his daily trip around the village on foot
after school, but he never published it.
As the rst of four children, Benny took bold decisions by becoming a writer, theater director, to a
producer, as his way of life. In his hometown, what the rst child do is often used as an example for his
younger siblings. Benny’s choice did not get a positive response from his family before he dispatched his
grandfather to Mekkah in umroh-worship by a writing competition prize held Mizan and Republika (2009).
As he wrestled with the creative world, his second brother took the musical path and the third one work in
lm as a future choice. None of them follow the path of the father as a (retired) civil servant. Over time, his
family received a creative path chosen by their children—with Benny Arnas as the pioneer.
