Digital Image Correlation System for Tensile and Compression Testing

The Digital Image Correlation
(DIC) system can provide detailed information of material properties during tensile testing. As it is a non-contacting measurement method, a sample can be tested
to its breaking point with high accuracy. The Mercury RT system also offers software modules for more complex post-processing and analysis.
The video extensometer from Mercury RT measures sample deformation in real-
time by using multiple virtual probes and advanced image features to be tracked. This offers a major step in terms of speed and measurement accuracy, as any change between the two markers in any axis can be resolved with an accuracy of 0.01 pixels.
The Mercury system can be connected
to all industrial and DSLR cameras. It is applicable for almost all applications from microscopic to macroscopic testing, as long as the camera lenses are selected properly. examples of objects that can be tested include metals, woods, composites, fabrics, plastics, concrete, ceramic and many more.
More than one camera can be set-up and operated simultaneously for measurement in 3D. Optional high-speed cameras are also available for dynamic and high-speed testing.
The measurement values are computed in real-time and the data can be transferred either via analog or digital outputs. Users have the flexibility to perform analysis in either offline or online mode. This versatile system is not only ideal for use in material testing, but is also applicable for measuring strain, vibration and crack propagation, as well as structural health monitoring.
