It’s more than just a charcoal business, It’s a FAMILY business
It’s Community
It’s the reputation that precedes you; It’s the taste that keeps people coming back!
A story from a loyal customer reminiscing his experience with B&B from the very beginning
“Back in the mid 70’s I moved to Brenham, Tx and started working at Green Grain Co...a feed, seed, wholesale grocery and beer wholesaler. One of the products we sold a lot of was B & B Charcoal..we sold 100’s of bags of B & B a month...both wholesale and retail. I’ll never forget the
old man, from B & B, who delivered the big bags to us every couple of weeks. I don’t remember his name. I was told that he owned the company. I think he did everything from burning the wood to cooling to bagging and then delivering. He was always incredibly particular about how we handed his product...he had a speci昀c spot in our warehouse... he would back his pick-up into the warehouse next to his spot and he would hand me the bags one-by-one. We only sold one size...it was a big bag...I thought it was 25lbs/might have been 20lbs...the tops were neatly folded over in a criss-cross pattern and stapled together.
He was particularly careful about how we handled his product..very particular...we had to rotate
the bags...stack them upright...never lay ‘em 昀at...always use care and never break-up the delicate
charcoal inside.
I was always impressed by his devotion to his product...even in something that, at the time, I thought was as unimportant as charcoal.
50 years later and a move back to Austin and a Kamado Joe I think I understand. I now drive out of my way to a HEB that stocks B & B in the 25lb bag...I go through all the 25lb bags in the store and pick out the ones that I think have been handled with the same loving care that I was taught to use back in those good old days at Green Grain in Brenham. I hope you guys are his kids or grand kids...Be very proud if you are.”

B&B Charcoal is still a family owned business, still based in Texas and established in 1961.
