Five millions seconds. Eighty-four thousand minutes. One thou- sand, four hundred hours. 60 days. Two months. No matter which way you look at it, that’s a lot of time. And in the world of BBQ podcasts, no one has spent
more time ‘on the mic’ than Greg Rempe of The BBQ Cen- tral Show. In fact, if you sat down and went right back to the start of the BBQ Central catalogue and listened to every episode back-to-back, you would die from hunger 8 times over before you’d get caught up. Oh, who am I kidding? We’re BBQ folk. We’d pass over in 48 hours tops!
In a time when most podcasts
don’t make it past ten
episodes, Greg has been crank-
ing out his highly entertaining
show since 2006. For reference,
podcasting was only invented
in 2004. That means that not
only is Greg the Godfather of
BBQ Podcasting, he’s one of the Godfathers of Podcasting period. But Greg’s love of BBQ goes back even further than that.
Remember internet forums? I do. Kinda. Anyway, Greg started The BBQ Central Forum in 2004 and spent nearly a decade building and growing his online community before selling it in 2013. What does this mean? It means that if you don’t know Greg Rempe personally, you know some- body who does. In fact, I’d wager there’s no one else out there with the depth and breadth of industry contacts that Rempe has. And this is re- flected in the guest lists that he has on the show.
Every week, Greg brings in at
least 4 of the biggest names in the BBQ world. They may be com- petitors, manufacturers, suppliers, or even other podcast hosts! The BBQ Central is such a well respected BBQ media outlet that
several of the biggest names have regular spots on the show. Like who? Well how about Mal- colm Reed, Sam The Cooking Guy, and Meathead Goldwyn? With over seven hundred shows and counting I’ll remind you that if you don’t know Greg Rempe personally, you know somebody who does.
The BBQ Central Show is the only LIVE, yes LIVE BBQ show that looks and sounds like a real TV / radio show. Stylisti- cally, The BBQ Central Show definitely draws influence from mainstream sports cover- age which makes it familiar, easy to listen to and entertain- ing. In fact, Rempe himself de- scribes the show as the ‘ESPN
of the live-fire industry’. Greg and his guests cover all facets of the BBQ industry, leaving no stone unturned and everything is
fair game on the show. In fact, Rempe often opens and closes the episodes by sharing his own personal thoughts on a range of topics. And maybe, just maybe, an occasional rant. Oh, and did I mention that they sing?
You can catch the live show on The BBQ Central Facebook page every Tuesday night from 9pm to 11pm EST. The show is syndicated in podcast format, one hour at a time on Wednes- days and Thursdays. And don’t miss the ‘Best Of’ episodes on Fridays - these snippets from ‘back in the day’ are like little BBQ time capsules!
