 NEBS Teams Are Die-Hard!

Think BBQ isn’t “that much” in the New England area? Think again!
The Post 225 Toy Drive Cook-Off and Kid’s Q brought a field of 25 (almost 26) competitors on a cold, torrential rain, and windy start of the weekend to the American Legion Post 225 on Friday, No- vember 12, 2021. Die-hard teams showed up on Friday night to learn that the field was flooded, trucks and trailers were stuck in the mud and green grass set up was partially moved to a parking lot. Power outages, floods and tor-
nado warnings for the area didn’t stop a group of BBQ teams from preparing for the last contest of the season organized by Inclusive BBQ Events – Kathy and Tom Trainor.
NEBS as well as many other organi- zations see a rollercoaster up and down, year to year of professional events to starter events like Tailgate, 4 Category and Kid’s Q. This year Tailgate Contests made a comeback in the New England area. Inclusive BBQ Events was able to organize

three Tailgate and Kid’s Q events to join the NEBS calendar alongside the ever-loved Otter River BBQ Cook-off organized by Andy King. Tailgate events are your future KCBS competitors, 4 Category events are adored by those wanting to show their overall culinary skills and the Kid’s Q – well, these kids are the future generations of BBQ.
We must admit – the weekend presented a number of challenges – from Friday weather issues to re-organization of the team spaces to software failures to storms rolling
in at the conclusion of the event... HOWEVER, the teams, judges, volun- teers, organizers, and all involved pulled together to make it a weekend to remember full of fun, smiles, (a couple of tears), laughs and making new friends!
The Post 225 Toy Drive Cook-Off and Kid’s Q wasn’t only successful in the number of teams, the contest yielded donations of record amounts to local charities... toys, cash donations and allocated funds, as well as gift cards
