RUBS OF HONOR
The purpose of Barbecue News Magazine’s annual Rubs of Honor event is very simple: find the best seasoning or rub for chicken, pork, beef and seafood.
The 2021 event had another record-breaking number of entries with a total of 377 different rubs being entered into the competition. The beef category consisted of 89 entries and each entry was judged using Hassell Cattle Company sirloin Wagyu steak. The chicken category used skinless, boneless thighs and featured 105 different entries. The pork category, which had 107 total entries was the largest category and used pork steaks as their protein samples. The seafood category had 76 different entries and shrimp was prepared for the judges to sample. All entries were cooked on a RECTEQ Bull pellet grill and fueled by B&B Charcoal pellets. The 2021 Rubs of Honor Competition was judged over a four day period. The results below show only the top 10 finishers in each category but each
participate will see the complete finishing order for each category.
Each of the top 10 finishers in each category will receive a certificate with the winner in each category also receiving a National Championship trophy. Each category winner will also receive their choice of a $750 prepaid advertising contract with Barbecue News Magazine or a bottling contract from Croix Valley Foods good for a 100 pound batch of their winning rub bottled for resale.
