3. make or become hot or warm (verb)
Heat is one of the few words, much like barbecue, that can be used as a verb or noun. I most often use the word heat when I am complaining about how hot it can get in Southeast Georgia during the summer, which I do way too often. Recently I’ve been witness

to the other noun of the word heat as I have been back on the road attending some long overdue barbecue and steak events. The Windy City Smokeout, Hogs For A Cause, Smokin’ On Main, and hundreds of other big time barbe- cue events are finally coming to life again. I am overjoyed to see of these events taking place but the fact that I can’t attend them all surely can “heat” me up to the point of dis- appointment sometimes.
Questions for you.
Can you start a fire without with a spark?
Answer is yes...it’s actually heat that creates fire and not the spark. Several of the newer charcoal lighters demon- strate this theory very well (Looftlighter).
Can you cook food without heat?
Answer is yes...you can cook some fish and shrimp pro- teins with acid (Ceviche) and you can cure just about any meat protein with salt. I personally find it difficult to eat anything that has not passed over some type of heat source so personally I wouldn’t cook without heat.
Hope this rambling helps generate a smile, but if not I surely hope the cover story recipes on quick and easy treats will help you beat the heat in your backyard.
