Masters Series TOY winner - Hogline
Hogline is a curling term. As you watched the Olympics here recently you would have heard the term thrown out there. It is the line of play that you must cross on both sides of the ice. Hogline the BBQ team is ourselves, Dustin and Mary Reese along and our sons Harrison and Alex.
Going into 2021, we were ready to shake off the year 2020. We knew that it was something not to be repeated. We took a look at our program and equipment, trying to figure out if something needed to change but thanks to some advice from a few close friends and competitors we stayed the course on our program.
Every year since 2017, we have started our season at Smoke In the Spring in Osage City, KS. If you have not competed in this contest, you owe it to yourself to make the trip. Corey Linton and his entire crew do a fabulous job and the whole town is very welcoming. Our results were mediocre, but we had hope as it was a stacked field of amazing competitors. As a good competitor does, we made a slight adjustment to our Pork and got ready for the next contest. In May we competed at Minnesota in May and the pork adjustment paid off as we placed 1st in Pork, 1st in Ribs and Overall Grand Champion. The rest of the 2021 season brought us two additional Reserve Grand Champions Emmetsburg IA and Worthington MN, and then two additional Grand Champions in Albert Lea MN and Warrens WI. Harrison decided to start participating in Kids Q this year, so we were proud of him with his two 3rd place finishes and his 2nd place finish in Warrens WI. Alex can’t wait until he is old enough to cook.
