Due to our very consistent results in the state of Minnesota, we were honored to be named Minnesota Team of the year in Ribs, Pork, Brisket, and Overall Team of the year. Thanks to our great partners that help us turn out consistent Que week in and week out. Enough cannot be said about Com- part Duroc Pork, Whitewater Drum Smokers, and Northern Fire Grilling and BBQ Supply. This was the third time in the last four years being named Minnesota Overall Team of the Year.
We also competed at the American Royal World Series of BBQ. We hit some good tables and accumulated enough points in the Open competition to be named the Reserve Grand Champion. What an Honor! This opened an opportu- nity for us to compete at the Houston Rodeo and Livestock Show BBQ contest as
the American Royal
Open Grand Champion
was not able to attend.
We were 65th out of
200 plus teams but had
a great time being in
Champions Row. The
logistics of trying to at-
tend a competition in
Houston TX during a
Minnesota winter is
complicated when your
equipment is all in stor-
age but thanks to some
great BBQ friends, we were able to make this happen. We owe a big thanks to Blane Hunter of Porky Butts BBQ for assisting in getting us down to Houston, he is not only a World Champion Pitmaster but also a guy who will do about anything to help a fellow competitor.
Every BBQ season is different, but we are ready for what comes next with the 2022 Season which will soon be upon us in the upper Midwest. We are looking forward to getting back out and seeing our friends and making some new ones, because in reality that is one of the best parts of com- petition BBQ. Before we get started this year, we will be teaching a backyard competition techniques class at North- ern Fire BBQ and Grilling on March 27th. April starts strong with Altoona IA and the return of the Iowa BBQ Society’s
Iowa State Championship BBQ Contest, as well as Smoke in the Spring. We are excited for the return of our home- town contest Smokin In Steele in Owatonna MN on June 3rd and 4th, the contest has not been able to be held the last two years due to unique restrictions during covid in MN. We look forward to seeing everyone out on the competition trail this year.

Furlongs Smoke & Seafood
Furlongs Smoke & Seafood is a KCBS Backyard BBQ team and catering company based out of Minneapolis, MN. Fur- longs Smoke & Seafood was started in 2018 by lifelong friends Drew Wilson and Joey Lee. After winning 1st place
in a local rib contest, they were off to the races. Shortly after, they began traveling the country in search of the best BBQ around. Whether it’s cooking for a competition or a catering event, they're serious about their 'Que.
In 2021, Furlongs Smoke & Seafood com- peted in eleven BBQ competitions where
they received multiple 1st place chicken and rib calls, won two Grand Championships, and two Reserve Grand Cham- pionships. They are the 2021 Minnesota BBQ Society Backyard Team of the Year and Minnesota BBQ Society Backyard Chicken Team of the Year.
What was your best memory from the 2021 BBQ season? “At Bring’n Home the Bacon this past October, we finished Reserve Grand Champion on day 1 and Grand Champion on day 2 to close out the season and seal the deal on Min- nesota Backyard Team of the Year.”
The Furlongs guys plan on going even BIGGER and BET- TER in 2022 where they will be competing in 20 competi- tions in 10 different states.
