Building The Sport Of Steak Cookoffs!
 SCA Equals Opportunities for Growth
It’s Summertime and you know what that means! Summer competitions and awards! Technically Summer doesn’t ar- rive until June, but May is National BBQ Month and Memo- rial Day Weekend gets us all out of our winter blues by firing up the grills. Whether it’s a PK, Hasty Bake, Chimney Cartel Cooker, Weber or one of your others, summertime isn’t the only thing bringing the heat. If you’re from the south, this perhaps doesn’t mean as much, but for the northern cooks, this month is a time of rejoicing!
As many of us gather around the fires grilling up the perfect
steaks practicing for our next competition, have you talked to your neighbors about this great organization? With grilling on everyone’s mind and Memorial Day cookouts being planned, this is the perfect opportunity for you to in- vite your neighbor to a competition. As you look at the SCA calendar of events, there is undoubtedly one near you. Sometimes with a sanctioning body, we get so focused on competing, we forget to help our favorite group to grow. The SCA continues to grow around the world and there are no signs of it slowing down. But let’s do our friends a favor by inviting them to help us get that golden ticket. Or, you can
help them get their feet wet by just pay- ing for their entry fees for your next comp.
I recently took my brother with me to an SCA event, entering everything like I normally do but I gave him one of the ancillaries to cook. Whatever he wanted, he was in charge, and we turned it in. He got 6th that day but more importantly, he was bit by the SCA bug. It’s that easy. On the next competi- tion, he will enter it all himself and earn his own points. This summer bring a friend or relative to your next one, and let’s grow together.
Event of the Month
We have some great competitions going on during the month of May. All over the country cooks will be gathering to earn those Golden tickets in steaks and an- cillaries. One such cook will be happen- ing Memorial weekend in Madison, FL May 27th-28th. Promoter, Brian Cole- man, will be hosting the Donate Life Celebration cookoff. They are paying out $500 for first place per ancillary?! Top 5 from each ancillary will advance to the finals on Saturday. Each finalist
