I very seldom ever waste charcoal. When my proteins are done, I will always close both the intake and exhaust vents to extinguish the fire that has just cooked my food. Once I am ready to cook again, I will light a chimney full of new coals and add them to the half-
burnt charcoal so I can fully use each piece.
Over the past few months, I have witnessed many burning coals that had their air cut off to slow their blazing fires. Graduating seniors, athletes, barbecue pitmasters, and restaurant owners are just a few examples of these once burning coals that have been shut down by the current COVID-19 virus. I am glad to report that I have yet to see any of these "coals" go entirely out and most are ready to get started smokin' again.
As we all start to fire up again, let us all be careful not to allow our new fire to consume or burn us out. We must stay on the cautious side of things before throwing caution to the wind like we were before all of this mess started. This self reserve could make the difference between a new normal or an even bigger disaster than we just experi- enced.
There is NO ONE more ready to hit the road then I am. Our 30th Anniversary Tour is ready to go again at any time. I also know that if I am not careful, then the 31st Anniver- sary could become fiction instead of reality. Let us all be safe and sound as we restart our lives, fires, and daily rou- tines...one day at a time. If we keep looking out for each other, then, in the end, we will defeat this angry virus.
