At a minimum, that policy should include:
• restric ons on the use of personal electronic devices in vehicles (for example, prohibi ng use of such devices except when the vehicle is parked);
• review of each driver’s o cial 3-year Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) prior to hiring;
• maintenance of an “acceptable” MVR by drivers during the tenure of their employment, veri ed through annual review (employees who maintain a commercial driver’s license must comply with addi onal rules);
• disciplinary ac on in the case of viola ons of driver safety policies; and
• a s pula on that failure to par cipate in pre-employment or post-hire MVR screening
will result in denial of employment, loss of employment, or revoca on of driver privileges.
We also recommend that driver safety policies include a training component
to encourage con nuous
reinforcement of safe driving
