Research Results
In research, major breakthroughs were observed in the
following areas: a) Flowering and potential for fruiting of re-
habbed mango trees throughout the year with robust oppor-
tunity for off-season fruits. Continuous research is needed to
address the challenge of producing good quality mango fruits
during rainy season that can withstand inclement weather. b)
Fruiting of pomelo trees throughout the year. However, fruit
quality (size, taste and looks) is affected by rainy season and
insect infestations particularly fruit fly. Regular market with
good price still needs to be harnessed. c) Production of fruit
juices and soil enzymes and microbes that are used in the
farm to restore soil fertility at significantly reduced cost. d)
Success in producing extra-income from charcoal making out
of pruned branches of mango/ pomelo trees as well as from
seedlings produced using rotten mango seeds and applying
grafting technologies. There is huge demand for seedlings
with the mango and pomelo trees shown to be lucrative ven-
ture. Experiments are being done on way to reduce insect in-
festation using eco-friendly technologies at reduced costs.
