On Monday 11th we drove for four and half hours to reach the beautiful Alpine village of Hamner Springs, surrounded by exotic forests. We stayed at Cheltenham House built in the 1930s and were given a warm welcome by Len and Maree Earl who invited all their guests to early evening drinks.
A steep walk up through the woods took us to Conical Hill with panoramic views of the Waiau valley below. Alastair nobly returned uphill to retrieve my sun glasses which I had lost.
