The Wairau Valley is covered in vineyards and olive groves and has over 80 wineries in the region. Our journey south to Hanmer Springs via the Lewis Pass took us through wooded hills and mountains on the East coast of the South Island. The valleys and mountain scenery were beautiful in fine summer weather.
