BRADLEY S. JONES, OFE Fire Chief, City of Sidney
Dear OFCA Board of Directors,
I am submitting my application for the open OFCA Director-At-Large position. I am eager to
“give back” to the community at the next level and believe my experiences over the past 23+ years qualify me to help OFCA be premier, professional and proactive.
Premier - During my tenure with the Kettering Fire Department I upgraded the department’s standard operating guidelines and performed various studies on ways to improve response time including the implementation of a new 24-hour Fire apparatus. This pioneering work is in use today and underpins their current investment in new fire stations. While I am proud of this accomplishment, I have learned that pioneering ideas, even those supported by data, require skills in selling and managing change. This is something I can bring to the organization and help oth- ers think through as they seek to take their department’s to the next level.
Professional - In addition to having completed the Ohio Fire Executive program and serving as a presenter at the Ohio Fire Chiefs’ Conference, I have worked to improve the skills and knowledge of those around me by implementing competency-based training, conducting an internal officer candidate training program and sending my own officers through OFE. In 2014 I was recognized by the Shelby County Fire Association as Firefighter of the Year for my leadership across the county fire departments to implement a new county-wide radio system.
Proactive - I continue to seek out new ideas from other departments to improve the wellbeing of the Sidney community I serve. This includes reviewing a needle exchange program to address the growing heroin epidemic in our community to new fire ground tactics, to better ways of conducting outreach and customer service. Serving on the Board would enable me to facilitate the exchange of ideas on a broader level.
I have accomplished much in my career and I have learned a lot along the way. This combina- tion of results and lessons learned would make me a strong Director and member of the Board.
Thank you for your consideration,
Bradley S. Jones... OFE Fire Chief, City of Sidney
