PART A: MATCHES TO WILLIAM BRYAN, SR.
AND HIS CHILDREN
Including DNA match charts/screen shots, and research material
The following pages contain evidence of the DNA matches that I have found that are most pertinent to this research.
Sometimes the matches are presented as a screen shot from Ancestry's ThruLines and at other times I have presented the matches through a chart. This was necessary when the family tree of the Ancestry ThruLines' match was not exactly right, or the number of matches made a chart a more succinct means of presenting the connections.
As previously discussed, Ancestry.com trees are notoriously incomplete and incorrect!
I will only count the match if I can correct the mistake and make the tree connection viable through documentary evidence.
There continues to be much controversy in our family as to whether or not we are related to William Jennings Bryan. I discuss this controversy further on page 103.
William Bryan, Sr. married more than once, if we believe the DNA evidence. ThruLines now identifies Margaret Strode Bryan as a half sibling to Mary Catherine, John Andrew Bryan, William Bryan, Jr., and James Bryan.
David Bryan (1721-1767) is frequently listed in Bryan family genealogical histories as another son of William Bryan, Sr. He appears to be closely associated with the family. His name is associated with William Bryan, Sr. in most of the family histories. I have not found matches to his descendants but he appears to have had very few descendants.
Ancestry ThruLines has suggested three other possible children for William Bryan, Sr. They are John Richard Bryan, Bennett Bryan and Martha Patty Bryan. Because of their dates of birth, all three would most likely be descended from a third wife, if they are related at all. The match level for all three is below 10 cM. I am not confidant in these relationships. I do find Martha Patty Bryan as an intriguing possibility. I discuss this further on page 106.
