     Fashion Focus
The main focus of the Festival
of Vintage at York Racecourse
this year will be fashion – a
celebration through the ages,
concentrating on the period of
the 1930s to the 1960s. There
will be an extra special talk
from the Marks and Spencer’s
Archive, based in Leeds, and
you’ll be able to enjoy a nostalgic look back at one of Britain’s best-loved shops. Talks will focus on the 50s and 60s, as well as some gems from their TV advertising campaigns, and for keen collectors of
the St Michael’s brand, you can also see a range of clothing from the archives.
As well as vintage clothing sellers there are classic car displays, make do and mend, dance lessons, beauty parlours, workshops and live music. The festival takes place on Saturday 23rd and Sunday 24th of April, so visit the website to book. www.festivalofvintage.co.uk
 THOROUGHLY MODERNIST
Ute Mirbach of All Modern has been collecting modernist jewellery for more than 20 years, as well as working in the field of design classics and modernism, as organiser of Design Classic Dusseldorf. In 1999 she started selling some of her own collection and then finally in 2003 she
started All Modern. Ute believes it’s the best decision that she has ever made because she is doing what she loves. We’re certainly glad she did too because she has some fantastic pieces on her website, alonside a selection of glass and ceramics from makers such as Fornasetti and Kaj Frank – UK shipping is also no problem. www.allmodern.de
   FOUR THE LOVE
You lucky people have four opportunities to visit Pop Up Vintage Fairs London over the next couple of months. First off, on Sunday 7th February they join IACF at Alexandra Palace where they organise the vintage area. (You can also get 2-4-1 entry via the IACF website) Then on Sunday 28th February they will be at Rosslyn Hill in Hampstead, just a week before Mother’s Day, where you can pick up a lovely gift from one of the 40 plus stands, or take your mum along with you and treat her to some shopping, afternoon tea and time in the Beauty Parlour? Finally on Saturday 20th February and again on 19th March, they are at their usual venue of Old Spitalfields Market. www.popupvintagefairs.co.uk
Solid Investment
Starting out in antique furniture, father and son team at The Furniture
Rooms have since developed a passion for design and quality, which
has grown into a specialism for Art Deco and Mid-century furniture. This enthusiasm is immediately apparent when looking at their chosen pieces from designers such as Gordon Russell, Merrow Associates, Finn Juhl, Arne Vodder and Kai Kristiansen.
They’ve been restoring furniture to a high standard since 2004 from their well-equipped workshop in the Kent countryside – selling their wares both online and to stores. Their obsession for high quality really shows, and they use original techniques and precision craftsmanship to create something that will last for many more years to come.
They also offer a service where you sign up for a personal email detailing all the new stock before it goes on general sale, making sure that you get the pick of the bunch.
