MILANESE WOMEN CINI BOERI ARCHITECTURE In 1975 Boeri was commissioned by the Mosel Company to create a large shop for the exhibition of furniture in the historic center of Bilbao, a Spanish city that was then experiencing a period of development full of innovation. The façade of the building was quite old and rather anonymous, so Boeri decided to demonstrate her originality by sharply breaking the existing lines in order to create two large showcases in the shape of an acute triangle. The internal space of the building was very large and dotted with unattractive pillars that made it resemble a concrete forest. The challenge was to transform this concrete labyrinth into logical and functional spaces of different open and closed sizes. The sloped false ceilings follow the lines of the showcases, whilst the lighting is small and discreet so as not to interfere with the lamps displayed for sale. In the same way, walls, furnishings and window frames are neutral and cool in order not to take away from furniture in the showroom. Today, Studio Cini Boeri is still active in Milan and continues to deal with interior design as well as putting the most significant design objects designed by Boeri back into production. 24 / April-May 2020 / ve www.vintagexplorer.co.uk
