Discuss garage door safety with your children. Do not let children play with or use pushbutton or transmitter.
When using pushbutton or transmitter, keep the door in sight until it completely closes. Do not allow children to run under a closing door.
There are routine maintenance steps that you should follow once a month.
If you suspect any problems, DO NOT USE YOUR GARAGE DOOR SYSTEM, have a qualified person make repairs. The spring and related hardware is under high tension and can cause severe injury when handled improperly.
Look at the garage door springs, cables, rollers, pulleys and other door hardware for signs of wear.
Rollers and hinges of a garage door require periodic lubrication.Use a spray silicon or lightweight household oil.
Periodically test the balance of your door.
Start with your door closed. Disconnect the garage door opener, release mechanism so you can operate the door by hand.You should be able to lift the door smoothly and with little resistance. It should stay open around three to four feet above the floor. If it does not, it is out of balance. Have it adjusted by a professional.
Damage to property can occur if not using the correct tools and without following proper procedures. Never attempt to weld a broken spring. Garage door openers must have all safety features in working order, installed and adjusted to the manufacturer’s guidelines.
