NARM Model For Working with Affect
§Often clients have the belief that their anger or grief will be too much for themselves and/or for others
§e.g., if they feel their anger they might hurt themselves or someone else
§e.g., if they feel their sadness they will never stop being sad and may fall into an endless pit of despair
§We help them to understand that the more they fight against their feelings the more overwhelming these feelings seem
§Fighting against oneself also takes significant life energy away from other areas of one’s life and often leaves one feeling stuck, like in a ”hamster’s wheel”
