photographer and retouch artist.
Thompson’s work can be seen in private homes and several
area galleries including Emporium at Eiband’s, from the heART
Gallery and Galveston Art League. Several of her pieces also
are included in the new exhibit Adventures in Art, which opens
Wednesday, March 13, at the Moody Gardens hotel, Spa, &
Convention Center in Galveston.
Thompson - an avid quilter, embroidery, macramé, and
crochet artist who also has dabbled with pottery, stained
glass, painting, and drawing - says she discovered her affinity
for digital art after taking an online Photoshop artistry course
taught by Sebastian Michaels.
“it was the best thing that ever happened to me. i have now
spent the past few years learning a wide array of techniques
through his many courses. i found that compositing and
creating art on the computer was something i enjoyed
immensely,” Thompson says.
“Creating art in this way is exciting and gives me a wonderful
means of expressing myself creatively.”
When creating her compositions, Thompson focuses on
surprising the viewer by placing seemingly disparate or
unrelated objects or images together.
in “Wolf Call,” she plants a rusty red British phone booth in
the woods alongside a lone Arctic wolf. in “No Oars,” a pair of
pink flamingoes stand in a wooden canoe, one with its head
lowered to greet a sea turtle, as a solitary dolphin glides in the
