This led to the group receiving the West Wimmera Shire Council 2022 Australia Day ‘Community Event of the Year Award’. The group has been innovative with technology embracing QR code show results recording. They were also the first show to use a specially designed smartphone scavenger hunt game and digital history quiz.
The show committee then submitted a successful video application to host the Victorian Agricultural
Show 2024 State Convention.
The Kaniva A&P Society is the oldest community group in Kaniva. The Kaniva Show has always been strong in entries, clearly demonstrating the community support behind the event.
The committee have tried to ensure that the entries are fun and quirky, whilst staying true to the

roots of an agricultural show. They endeavour to provide entertainment and attractions for all ages.
Kaniva is known as the Durum Wheat capital of Victoria: a wheat variety grown for Sam Remo pasta.
The Wimmera region is known for its healthy soils and the Kaniva A&P Society also run a crop competition as part of the Wimmera regional competition.
Local farmer Billy Crouch took
out the champion crop for the entire Wimmera group with his Calibre Wheat entry last year. Kaniva’s Louise Hobbs will also be representing the Wimmera in the Rural Ambassador competition held at the Royal Melbourne Show.
The ‘Quick Shear’ competition is a focal point for the show. Witnessing
shearers from around Wimmera and South East SA, speed shearing a sheep in under thirty seconds,
is a sight not to be missed.
The success of the Kaniva Show has also relied on the ability of the committee to innovate and the 2023 show is no exception with the Australian Tractor Pull Association in attendance.
The ‘Tractor Pull’ features vintage and modified tractors with two demonstration shows during
the day. One thing is guaranteed and that’s big tractors with lots of smoke, noise and action.
Also new this year is the Kaniva Lions Club Car and Bike Show, plus a virtual reality harvesting experience.
Children’s entertainer George the Farmer is sure to be a hit
