fortunately lead to an increment of Time Efficiency and
Production. When the production includes heavy or
robust machines, it is obvious there will be many haz-
ards which can be eliminated by using machines instead
of men to do the job. The usage of software for the
enhancement of the machine will help us predict the life
of the machine and also boost its performance. We also
need to keep in mind, the effect of the machines on the
environment, Smart factories assist in safeguarding the
environment by helping produce recyclable products.
There is decentralization of control and every machine
is self-organised which saves a lot of time.

Just like every coin has two sides, there are disadvan-
tages to smart manufacturing too. Since the people
are replaced by machines there will be a rise in unem-
ployment. The robots being used can only do the work
they are programmed for, they cannot do work which
requires creativity. In case of robotic automation, the
finance required is very high and the maintenance cost
is also high. The employees will need further training to
have an idea about how to operate the robots. The ro-
bots generate electronic waste which has to be disposed,
which is an extra burden. Since there is a lot of network-
ing involved among the machinery, they are open to
risk, if there is lack of cyber security.

Suppliers in the world of manufacturing are after
        increased production, sustainable development, reduced
wastage and better performance. We are continuously
questioning our future prosperity and the quality of life.
The focus is increasingly on sustainable development
habits. Smart factories are the next big change in the
revolution of industries. Making our current engineer-
ing systems smarter is the solution for better machines.
Smart factories help in resource-efficient production.
Every factory has a different implementation of the term
‘smart factory’. For some, it may be better productivity,
for others, it may be better efficiency or increased life
cycle. Whatever may be the definition, time and mon-
ey are always the key factors. Smart factories demand
workers with more innovation, high skills and IT
literate. It focusses more on product design, monitoring
process and optimization. The transition to a smart
factory consists of many hurdles, but the long term
benefits of the smart factory truly make it worth the

        efforts. YE
