• Shirts: All full-time employees, when not in professional or business casual attire with BGCS name badge, must wear Club-issued staff shirts while working at all Clubs, programs and any Club-sponsored events. All part-time employees must wear Club-issued staff shirts while working at all Clubs, programs and any Club-sponsored events. Club-issued shirts may not be changed or altered in any way. It is preferred that each branch’s staff shirts be of the same color. Fridays are designated as club shirt day.
• Body Piercing: No visible facial/body piercing is permissible, including but not limited to, eyebrow, lip, nose, and tongue piercings. Employees will need to remove or cover any facial/body piercing while at work. Earrings are permitted, but not an excessive number (excessive = no more than three (3) per ear).
• Tattoos: Tattoos are permissible as long as they do not consist of obscene language or images.
• Pants: Jeans are permissible. All jeans must be in good condition. Jeans cannot have holes, or
be excessively long, baggy, or saggy in the inseam or seat. It is unacceptable to have undergarments showing above pants at any time. No excessively low-waist pants may be worn or yoga pants. Frayed pant leg bottoms, and pants made of sweatpants-type material are not permitted. Track pants are acceptable for staff who work in sports, fitness, and recreation areas within a Club branch.
• Shorts: Shorts are permissible for staff who work in a Club branch. Shorts must be conservative and not excessively long or short. Shorts must be no shorter than the tips of your fingertips when your arms are at their side. All shorts must have hems. Cut-offs are not permitted. Gym shorts that are the appropriate length are permitted for those working in sports, fitness and recreation areas within a Club branch. Underwear should not be visible at waist or below hem of shorts at any time.
• Skirts: It is preferred that Club program staff members do not wear skirts to work. If you would like to wear a skirt it must be at least knee length.
• Hats: Hats are not permitted to be worn at any time inside a BGCS facility and should be stored in cubbies or backpacks. Staff members working outside may wear a supervisor-approved hat or visor. All hats must be clean and worn facing forward. Hats should not be worn backward, cocked, to the side or sideways.
• Shoes: Employee safety is a priority for footwear. Shoes must be closed-toed, and socks must be worn at all times by staff working in a Club program area. Full-time employees that do not have specific core program area assignments may wear open-toed dress shoes. However, closed-toed shoes or athletic shoes must be on hand in cases that the staff member is assigned to, or must fill-in for, a program area. For those working in athletic or sports areas, sport-style, rubber soled shoes must be worn. Shoes with excessively thick soles (2 inches or more) or slippers are not permitted. Staff working in a Club branch may only wear flip flops or sandals while visiting or working a pool or aquatic facility.
• Dress-up days/Costumes: Employees are encouraged to participate in all scheduled dress-up days at the Clubs. On these days, please remember the dress code still applies. Safety is always a priority, so costumes may not hinder sight, hearing, or speech, or limit any movement of the employee. Staff shirts may be omitted, and hats may be worn in the facility on dress-up days. Staff badges must be worn. The standards for pants, shorts, skirts, and shoes still apply. On these days, it is important to remember that children are our customers. Please ensure that your costumes are always appropriate for children. Again, if you are unsure about the acceptability of your dress, please ask.
