Using Social Media at Work
Refrain from using social media while on work time or on the equipment BGCS provides, unless it is work-related or required as part of a Club program. Do not use the Club email addresses to register on social networks, blogs or other online tools utilized for personal use.
Retaliation is Prohibited
BGCS prohibits taking negative action against any employee for reporting a possible deviation from this policy or for cooperating in an investigation. Any employee who retaliates against another employee for reporting a possible deviation from this policy or for cooperating in an investigation will be subject to disciplinary action, up to and including termination.
Social Networking Code of Conduct
Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Scottsdale recognizes the importance of the use of technology in youth programming and encourages its employees to learn to utilize new technology tools to enhance the learning experience for members. BGCS also recognizes its responsibility to teach, encourage and ensure the safe and responsible use of these tools.
For the purposes of this policy, “social media” is defined as media designed to be interactive, including, but not limited to, any site or platform that incorporates user-generated content, such as blogs; microblogs, social networking, audio, photo, video sharing, and virtual world software.
While nothing in this policy should be construed as limiting employees’ First Amendment rights, BGCS believes that employees should separate personal and professional relationships in online communities and platforms. This policy is intended to regulate the use of social media by employees, including employees' personal use of social media, only when that use: interferes with the work of the Clubs; harasses coworkers or members/guardians; creates a hostile work environment; breaches confidentiality obligations of BGCS employees; disrupts the mission; harms the goodwill and reputation of BGCS in the community; violates the law, board policies and/or other Club rules and policies; or facilitates inappropriate contact with members, their families or guardians.
Expectations
Employees will be expected to follow the same professional conduct guidelines personally online as they would in the workplace and may be personally liable for any posts to social media sites and platforms. As such, employees must adhere to the following Code of Conduct when using all social media including personal activity:
1. Protect Confidential, Proprietary, and Sensitive Information. The use of images or photographs of members in online communication is prohibited unless: (a) advance permission from the parents/guardians is obtained and used ONLY on BGCS social media accounts or (b) the image has already been approved for public use. Employees should not disclose or post information that is protected by law or that is confidential or proprietary to BGCS or its employees.
