Knots Book
Dear Reader:
I was always intrigued by how much we use rope and
string in our daily lives and yet know so little about knot-
ting them. Until I took up knot tying as a hobby, I knew
what most people know about knotting; I knew how to tie
my shoes, tie a necktie, and fasten a rope to an object
without it looking too much like a rat’s nest.
I always told myself that I would get a knot book
someday and learn to tie properly, but passed up on some
opportunities, partly because I was intimidated at the
thought of following the diagrams and trying to remember
the crossings. When I finally sat down and spent some
time to learn knotting, I discovered that there is an art
and orderliness to it that I never would have imagined. It
is my intention that this book will bring this same realiza-
tion to you and you will enjoy learning the art of knot
tying as much as I have enjoyed teaching it to you.
