Hello, I am Alfonso Morales, Chief of the Milwauke e Pol ice Depa rtment . I woul d like to welcom e eve ryone to
our inaugural newsletter of The Guardians .

When I became Chief back in February of 2018, I pr om ised trans pa renc y. The Gua rdi ans will be anot he r pl atfor m
MPD will utilize to share information with our com muni ty. It is an int eractive qua rterly ne wsletter tha t will
feature crime statistics, crime trends and links to many of our publ ic com muni cations , suc h as our “Com muni ty
Briefings.” It will provide important upda tes and inf or mation to num erous resour ces to assist our com muni ty. The
Guardians will also highlight some of the gr eat w or k done by our m embers.

The first quarter of 2020 has been one like no ot he r for MPD, the City of Milwauke e and the wor ld. MPD
suffered the loss of Deborah Harris, who was an Emerge nc y Communi cations Ope rator for mor e tha n 32 ye ars.
Ms. Harris was killed by a reckless drive r, who struc k he r and fled. The sus pe ct was br ought to jus tice by U.S .
Marshals who captured him in Texas. I cont inue t o s end m y c ondol enc es t o t he f amily of M s. Ha rris.

The City of Milwaukee experienced trage di es suc h as the Mol son Coor s Brewing Com pa ny inc ide nt , whe re six
people including the suspect lost their live s, and the qui nt upl e hom icide tha t occur red on the 2800 bl oc k of N.
12th Street. I continue to send my prayers to all of the families and friends tha t were affected by the se tragi c
incidents.
