CSI GSR Kit
GSR testing has been available in different forms for about 30
years, but all tests to date had one common feature and that is the
investigating officer ‘swabs’ the hands of the suspect to collect GSR
particles and then sends the swabs to a laboratory for analysis by Fire & Explosive Detection
various methods.
The laboratory method commonly recognized as most reliable and
practical is interpretation via Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM).
However, it can take weeks even months, to obtain results from a laboratory, so the benefit to an officer CODE
offered by GSR testing has been very limited. In fact, many officers don’t even bother applying the technique, 97130
despite the fact that it is a reasonably reliable technology!
This GSR kit is different in as much as it is a “binary” test. This means that it allows the investigating officer to
test the suspect two times for GSR residues, once directly at the scene, which provides an immediate investigative
or “presumptive” benefit, and again in the laboratory, which provides the “evidentiary” data for use in court later
on.
Full instructions are supplied in every kit.
CSI ‘RIFF’ Kit
When the war broke out in Iraq, the CSI GSR Kit ISID-1 (product code 97130)
was presented to the Pentagon. Military commanders immediately recognised the
benefit of this technology. Soldiers were being attacked by hostile combatants
dressed as civilians, hiding in cars and buildings etc. Once fired, they would then
put down their weapons, mingle among civilians and soldiers with impunity,
creating a very dangerous situation.
However the product in its present form was of no use to the Military. Soldiers
needed a smaller product, so that they could carry several tests in their backpacks.
They also needed a product that primarily yielded field results, not evidence for
trial. Thus, a military version of this technology was developed and renamed
RIFF (Rapid Identification, Friend or Foe) by the Pentagon. The Military can now
quickly and accurately identify hostile combatants (shooters), and detain them.
The test also responds accurately to black powder (gunpowder), so it is helpful in CODE
identifying persons who have been building bombs or transporting explosives. 97131
Formerly only available to US troops it is now available to our Military and other
selected agencies around the world thru CSI.
