As we’ve already mentioned in the Communication and Safety chapter, whenever you are
engaging in even just a light bit of rope bondage, you should have EMT shears within reach
at all times, as well as a first aid kit, blankets, and all the other safety equipment we’ve
discussed. Rescue hooks can also be a great investment, as they are easier to use than
safety shears and will always get your sub out of a tie immediately. Never play alone.

Anica cream, body cream, condoms, dental dams, and different types of lube should always
be nearby during playtime, as well as any vibrators, dildos, anal beads, and any other toys
that you might want to experiment with. Remember: Safety is always key!

Nonrope Toys and Materials

You can use almost anything to tie a person up in some way. You can use wool to tie a
person’s fingers, a beach towel to mummify someone, and you can use the ol’ classic
necktie to bind your secretary’s hands to the bedframe while you peek beneath her skirt.
Some things are better than others, though, so let’s discuss some of my favorite nonrope
materials for any scene or playtime.

The least intimidating things you can use to tie someone up with are things that you
might usually find in the bedroom, so neckties and long women’s scarves are particularly
perfect, as are belts and pairs of tights or stockings. Even winter scarves can be used to tie
someone’s wrists or ankles together, if you’re not too worried about killing the supersexy
mood with some rough wool or a cozy scarf that your grandma knitted for you a few
years ago. One of my favorite bedroom-specific moves involves a pillowcase; turn your
submissive over, pull the sub’s arms together behind his or her back, make your sub grab
his or her elbows, and simply pull the pillowcase up over his or her arms. It’s simple, but
ridiculously effective!
