Dear Russell:
Your Medicare evaluation is enclosed. Please check the information on the client data sheet on
page 5 to make sure it is correct. In most cases, the costs shown in your evaluation are
estimates for the 2021 plan year. Medicare has not yet said how much next year’s Part B
premiums and cost-sharing amounts will be, and for these the 2020 costs are used. The
standard Part B premium this year is $144.60 a month, and you’ve indicated you will be subject
to the higher IRMMA amounts.
Until you begin your Social Security payments, you will be billed quarterly in advance for your
Part B premiums. After you eventually start receiving Social Security payments, your Part B
premiums will be deducted from your monthly checks.
Your supplemental coverage options
You have probably already enrolled in Part A and Part B effective December 1, and you may
have already received your Medicare card. Here are your next enrollment steps:
First, decide which Medigap plan you want. That will likely be Plan G, the most
comprehensive Medigap plan available to you. It’s good to call at least three
insurers for current quotes before getting your policy. Specify that you want your
policy to go into effect on December 1. The phone numbers of the insurers
licensed to sell Medigap policies in Pennsylvania are in Appendix B1.
To enroll in the stand-alone drug plan that has the lowest costs for your Rx
drugs, call the plan’s toll-free number, shown on page 4 of the evaluation and in
the Rx drug coverage section below, and let the plan know that you want your
drug coverage to begin on December 1.
The three Medigap plans in your evaluation
The most comprehensive Medigap plan available to you is Plan G. Your evaluation also
compares two other Medigap plans – Plan N and Plan L – to give you an idea of the coverage
differences among the plans.
