Dear Mrs. Kensky:
Your Medicare evaluation is enclosed. Please check the information on the client data sheet on
page 5 to make sure it is correct. Also, please verify that the names, dosages, and monthly
quantities of your Rx drugs are correct (they are an attachment to this letter).
In most cases the costs shown in your evaluation are for the 2018 plan year. But Medicare has
not yet said how much the Part B deductible and various co-payments will be next year, so the
2017 amounts are used.
After you’ve reviewed the evaluation and decided on the coverage you want, it’s a good idea to
call a minimum of three insurance companies for Medigap quotes before deciding which
company you will buy from. You can enroll in the Part D stand-alone plan that you want by
calling the plan’s toll-free number, shown on page 4 of your evaluation and in Appendix C2.
You can enroll at any time this month or next. Because you are in your initial enrollment period,
you are not subject to the Medicare open enrollment period that ends on December 7. If you
wish, you can enroll after that date, with your new coverage to begin January 1.
Medigap policy choices
You indicated in your questionnaire that you are interested only in Medigap policies, and so the
evaluation compares four Medigap plans (F, G, N, and L), all of which provide good coverage.
Plans F, G, and N are similar, while Plan L involves a bit more cost sharing but unlike the other
three has an out-of-pocket limit. These are not the only good Medigap plans, of course, but
they are all relatively comprehensive and, except for Plan L, among the most popular plans.
Since the evaluation compares four Medigap plans, it might help to review some features that
all Medigap policies share (you may be aware of these). Medigap policies can be purchased
during the first six months you have Part A and Part B without answering health-related
questions – although companies can adjust premiums for age, gender, and smoking status.
