Page 3 - Evaluation for John Shartle
P. 3
Shown below are cost comparisons of your current plan and two well-rated Part D stand-alone
plans. All three of the plans below are national plans, and their costs are the same in Maryland
and Delaware. These are 2018 costs and they include premiums, deductible, and co-payments.
Est. annual costs Est. annual costs
Plan Name (mail-order) (retail)
Humana-Walmart Rx Plan $2,462 $3,693
(your current plan)
Express Scripts Medicare Value Plan $2,027 $2,969
SilverScript Choice Plan $2,056 $2,169
The Express Scripts Medicare Value plan and the SilverScript Choice plan both have above-
average quality ratings of 4 stars. Among other things, high quality ratings indicate that
customers are satisfied with the plan.
The Express Scripts Medicare Value plan’s estimated 2018 mail-order costs are $2,027, but its
costs for retail refills are much higher. If you enroll in this plan and need short-term
prescriptions filled, you will probably save money by getting them filled at Walgreens (instead
of CVS or Giant Pharmacy). This plan’s enrollment number is (866) 477-5704.
The SilverScript Choice Plan’s estimated annual mail-order costs are $2,056. This plan is the
lowest-cost option for people who get monthly refills at a local pharmacy. Although Giant
Pharmacy and CVS are both preferred pharmacies in this plan, you’ll usually get slightly lower
prices at CVS. This plan’s enrollment number is (866) 552-6106.
As you can see in Appendices A1 and A2, neither of these plans is the lowest-cost option –
that’s the Magellan Rx Basic Plan. But the Magellan plan should be avoided because of its sub-
par quality rating of 2 stars. And its cost savings compared to either of the other two plans are
small (only $4 in the case of the Express Scripts plan). Appendix A3 is a side-by-side comparison
of the Express Scripts plan and the SilverScript plan.
John, please let me know if you have any questions.
Sincerely,
David Armes, CFP®
