 The Return Journey
Our journey back to Lukla would take the
established Everest Base Camp trek route. First
stop was Tengboche (3,870 metres) where
we attended prayers in the Monastery. Full
of beans, and noticeably more oxygen, many
of the team decided to brave non-vegetarian
food that evening. After several extremely
challenging days we were able to relax in the
knowledge that we had achieved our objectives
and soak up the atmosphere of the Tea House.
This uplift in morale continued the next day as
we headed back to Namche, arguably the most
picturesque of the villages we stayed in. Our
fi nal evening in the Sagarmatha National Park
was spent in Lukla where we enjoyed good
food, refreshments and paid our respects to
the strong men who had spent the past 14 days
 carrying our baggage.

 Endnote
I probably speak for many of the team when
I say that this trip was one of the single most
memorable events of my Army career. At times
extremely challenging but in equal measure,
exhilarating. The landscape is visually stunning
with amazing cultural diversity, we witnessed a
completely diff erent way of life.
