HIGHLIGHTS
• the heartbreak trail section of the drive is beautiful with the fresh, saturated scent of the forest hanging heavy in the air.
• the beach at Big Brook Dam is a delight for children.
• the circuit walk over the suspension bridge at Beedelup Falls is lovely, as are the falls.

recounted by old loggers are fascinating. Fishing: a licence to fish for trout or marron is available from the Pemberton Post office on Brockman st. trout season is year-round on the Warren, Blackwood and Donnelly rivers and september–april elsewhere. the marron season is very short – sometime in January or February. specific information is available at the visitor centre. For a sure catch, try the King trout Farm (Ph: 08 9776 1352) on the corner of Northcliffe and old Vasse roads. Kayaking or canoeing at Big Brook
Dam or on the Warren river beside the heartbreak trail.
Bushwalking on the numerous trails. Pick up a copy of the Pemberton Bushwalks booklet from DeC on Kennedy street or the visitor centre.

rd where they will cook the marron for you (Ph: 08 9776 0099).
take a ride on the Pemberton tramway (Ph: 08 9776 1322 www.pemtram.com.au) on railway Cr (if it is running).
if you have time, take a drive to Windy harbour (via Northcliffe) in D’entrecasteaux NP, or take the 48km Great Forest trees Drive through shannon NP
Cautions
• take it easy on the unsealed roads through the forests. though the roads are good, the gravel and earth surface can be slippery on turns and it is
easy to lose traction, particularly on heartbreak trail which is one-lane only.
• the track out over the yeagarup Dunes should be done in a convoy of at least two 4WDs as the only way out of a bogging here is with a snatch strap fitted from someone else’s winch to a recovery point on your vehicle.
• For driving on sand dunes, the issue of tyre pressure can raise heated debate. DeC, which maintains the yeagarup track to the dunes and on to the beach, suggests 75kPa or 10psi. others say 15psi is the least air you dare have, or about half the recommended tyre pressure. Check with your tyre manufacturer.
• Pay particular attention to signs advising the dates of controlled burns. these
will have the DeC contact details for further information or call the office
on Kennedy st in Pemberton (Ph: 08 9776 1207).
