 Buildings and Household contents
  Location of the home
The surrounding areas of a risk must be considered to identify any increase in risk, such as the spread of fire or the higher probability of floods, as depicted in the flood zones at St Francis below.
Note: All risks located at Thesen Island, Leisure Island and St Francis (including Sea Vista, Cape St Francis, St Francis Bay), whether standard or non-standard construction, must be referred to Hollard for further underwriting and to determine if the risk falls within a flood zone, prior to acceptance and again at renewal.
Additional security measures should be considered if the surrounding area of a risk contributes to an increase in the theft risk. Establish if the risk is:
○ located on a plot, smallholding, farm or in a rural area
○ located in a residential area, industrial area, security complex, housing estate, caravan park
○ adjacent to vacant ground (parks, highway or railway lines, mine-dumps)
○ exposed to construction activities such as a developing residential area.
Homes undergoing structural alterations or renovations
Any new risk undergoing structural alterations or renovations must be referred to Hollard and approved in writing. Existing business should also be referred especially when it is a material change in risk. When alterations or renovations are being made to the risk, we restrict theft cover to forced entry. Accidental and malicious damage caused by the contractor is further excluded. If the policy wording does not cater for these restrictions, an endorsement will be provided. If there are any structural changes a Contractors All Risk (CAR) policy is always required.
Definition of a smallholding or plot
A plot (also referred to as a smallholding or agricultural holding) or a farm is a property that has been zoned for agricultural use. This does not necessarily mean that the property is used for agricultural purposes.
