What is Languagechange?Language change is the process of alteration in the features of a singlelanguage, or of languages in general, across a period of time. It is studied inseveral subfields of linguistics: historical linguistics, sociolinguistics, andevolutionary linguistics. Traditional theories of historical linguistics identifythree main types of change:Sound change: Systematic shifts in the pronunciation of phonemes.Borrowing: When features from one language or dialect are adopted due tocontact with another.Analogical change: Adjustments in the form or grammar of a word to makeit resemble another word.
