Larkspur:
Sandstone Ranch Open Space:
Douglas County has a new open space located just west of Highway 105
and Perry Park Road. This is an expansive area with 2,038 acres containing
red rock formations, scenic hay meadows and rolling hills. There is a 12-mile
loop trail located on the eastern portion of the ranch for non-motorized use
only. The trails are open to hikers, mountain bike riders, and those on horseback. In the winter, outdoor enthusiasts can use the trails for snowshoeing and cross country skiing. Users will enjoy spectacular views and nature walks year around. This crown jewel is ready for the public to explore and get outside. Construction of the entrance and public parking was recently completed, just in time for the grand opening. In 2017, Douglas County acquired this land for the sum of $18,750,000. This was achieved in part with sales and use tax revenue form the 1994 voter-approved Douglas County Open Space fund. Adding to existing open space within Douglas County makes it understandable that our County has consistently been recognized as being one of the healthiest in America. I highly recommend that you, your friends and family get outdoors, especially during Covid 19 restrictions, and enjoy this amazing new open space!
