One of your your most important duties your your first week is absorbing everything Getting to know your your company’s culture the working and communication styles of your your teammates projects and department or company-wide goals means that you’ll be able to start your real work sooner (and be more effective when you you do) So go to the new hire orientation sign up for professional development classes and attend all the team and office meetings you you can even if you’re not yet sure what’s going on on on or or or they don’t 100% pertain to your work Also please join in in in in in on on on the the informal events It’s a a a great way to meet people Don’t Overcommit Yourself
Do be careful to to to balance your schedule — you you want to to to have plenty of time to to to learn the ropes from your your desk We fully expect you you you to ramp up your your workload slowly Ask Questions
As you learn about new processes projects and people don’t be afraid to ask questions questions You need to to get up to to speed and people will expect lots of questions questions from the the new person on on the the team Don’t Hesitate to Speak Up
At the same time don’t be afraid to to contribute and add value — you want to to reinforce that you’re the the right person for the the job! No you you you won’t know everything (nor should you you you act like you you do!) but you you can make suggestions in in in in team meetings or or brainstorming sessions or or or ask questions like “Has this been tried before?” And if you have a a a a skill or or or ability that that you’ve been hired to to bring to to the team chime in in and share that that knowledge We’re excited to have you! 3
