Carrollton s newly formed SWENext is a chapter of the Society
of Women Engineers, whose mission is to stimulate women to
achieve full potential in careers as engineers and leaders, expand
the image of the engineering profession as a positive force in
improving the quality of life, and demonstrate the value of diversity.
During the 2016-2017 school year, members participated in a variety
of activities including FIU Engineering Expo, the Water Rockets
Challenge, Introduce a Girl to Engineering Day, VEX Robotics, and
mentoring.

\t the end of last November, the school decided to participate in the Florida Gulf Coast University SunChase 2017 solar car competition held this past March.

Working out of the newly expanded Makerspace/lnnovation Center, students successfully embraced the ambitious challenge —building a competitive solar car in only
i few months. Carrollton's team, Solar Heart, came in Second Place overall out of a field of 12 teams from Florida high schools. The competition had 3 parts: first, a
>resentation to a panel of professors where Carrollton came in Second Place, second, a 2-lap, 4-mile sprint where our team came in Fourth Pllace, and last, an 8-mile
•ndurance relay where Carrollton came in First Place with laps driven by Regina Morfin, Catalina Rincon, Francesca Lopez and Sabine Meurs.
