”1always remember that Prize Day is Dr. Susan Dempf*s very favorite day of the year/ Intermediate School Director Heather
Gillingham-Rivas began her address to the Intermediate community on Prize Day. “She loves to see students recognized for their
great efforts, their risk-taking and their achievements, but more so, she loves to see the students enter Prize Day in one grade,
and leave as a members of the next. So, as I prepared to speak to you this morning, I thought a lot about Dr. Dempf and found my
inspiration in words that she shared with us this year."
Written by one of our Sacred Heart Founding Mothers, Janet Erskine Stuart, RSCJ, it reads, "The higher we want to fly, the greater
the risk, but that is the glorious part of it. The great uncertainties in which we trust God, the breathless risks we run, with no assurance
but our great trust in God, that seems to me to be of the essence of our life and its beauty. This will grow upon you; you will get your
balance in the risk and get to love it." This quote speaks volumes about the courage, fortitude and genuine Sacred Heart values with
which Dr. Dempf worked for our community.
Dr. Dempf, herself a Sacred Heart alumna, has served as Director of Carrollton's High School since 2010. She leaves us to begin
her work following in the footsteps of Saint Rose Philippine Duchesne as Head of School at the Academy of the Sacred Heart in St.
Dr. Dempf receiving her High School
diploma from Margaret Seitz, RSCJ, then Charles, Missouri.
