Dear Parents,
What an ama2ing weekend our community has just celebrated! I am so grateful
to all of you who made it so successful. Each event seemed touched by joy
and the overall effect has been a deepening of our sense of being a Family of
Christ’s Heart. Thank you.
On Sunday in his homily, Father Vallee shared an ancient chant with us:
Non nobis Domine, Domine
Non nobis Domine
Sed nomini, Sed nomini
Tu o da gloriam
N ot unto us, O Lord
N ot unto us, O Lord
But to Your name
But to Your name
May all the glory be.

As we listened to him sing these words, I thought of the more than 200-year-
old tradition within Sacred Heart Schools of always including in the opening
of a formal gathering the words Honor and Glory to God alone. St. Madeleine
Sophie Barat believed that all of our activity was ultimately intended to help
ourselves and others experience the primacy of God’s love, of God’s presence,
of God’s spirit. Gathered as we were this past weekend, Friday night for
Celebrate ’09, Saturday for the Alumnae Reception and Sunday for the Family
Liturgy, we experienced the powerful impact of being God’s Beloved. My hope
is that these days continue to influence our actions with one another and all
whom we meet.
Personally, I feel tremendous gratitude to all of you for your loving support
and enthusiastic appreciation for Sacred Heart education. The impact of the
weekend on me is that I am filled with a tremendous sense of hope. In you, our
parents, in the alumnae, the faculty, the staff, the trustees, and of course in the
students, I see people of conviction and commitment. Your commitment to St.
Madeleine Sophie Barat’s vision will ensure the vitality of Sacred Heart education
for generations to come.
