The Introduction to Visual Arts classes took part in
this year's Fairchild Challenge.
In the competition titled “Plants and Their Pollinators* students I
I
researched butterflies native to South Florida
and the plants that they pollinate.
They collected their findings in their sketchbooks and designed I
watercolor compositions based
on a combination of the plant and butterfly.
All of the student’s watercolors turned out beautifully and two I
of them (Jassenia Rodriguez and Ferila Sausi along with I
Kiera Russell in Photography) remain in the running for the I
Fairchild competition. Winners will be announced at the
beginning of March.

Eighteen thousand five hundred students at fifty
two South Florida High Schools participated in
this year's Fairchild Challenge. At Carrollton,
students in classes ranging from drama to
math were given opportunities to participate in
interesting and creative projects that frequently
give students the chance to showcase
their special talents. The options this year
included a skit, tee-shirt designs, green cuisine,
photography, solar inventions, environmental
debate, environmental action, newsletters in two
languages, designing an inner-city sanctuary
and an environmental immersion day, research
papers, and a field phenology study. We
received honorable mention in nine different
categories, and came in 4th place overall,
winning $500.
