In celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month, Carrollton students get a glimpse of a most unusual
tradition which originated in the Iberian Peninsula in the 13th century. Portuguese: and Spanish
university students would make ends meet by performing for street audiences in a group called
a tuna. The tradition has continued to the present as students in traditional medieval university
dress serenade in their home schools and abroad. The focus has shifted from earning their keep to
performing for the enjoyment of the music, the love of travel and as cultural ambassadors to people
from other universities.
Primary Chinese language students sing a song in Chinese to celebrate the Year of the Dog. Students throughout Carrollton Celebrate international heritage through
world cuisine.
