2007-2008 was a year of firsts for
Carrollton Debate - the first time a
te£
the first Novice team to win four
tournaments, the first Julia Burke
finalist and the first Carrollton team to
Tournament of Champions. Lead by ,
Seniors Dorothy Hector and Catalina
jSantos, Carrollton was invited -IfP P
four major round robins - Harvard,^
Greenhill, Michigan and Pace. The
students were routinely considered,
to be one of the top ten teams in
the country. Dorothy Hector was a
finalist for the Julia Burke award, given
annually to the debate competitor
who best exemplifies competition and
friendship. Carrollton's novice debate
program dominated nationally, winning
tournaments in Texas and Michigan
as well as competing in elimination
rounds at local Florida tournaments.
The debate team also completed the
second year of its service program at
The Barnyard. Each of the girls attends
twice a month where they teach
public speaking and debate skills. All
in all it was another incredible year for
Carrollton Debate, the number one
girls debate program in the nation.
